Tooth whitening is the fastest growing cosmetic dental procedure and, although it won't actually change the colour of your teeth, it can lighten their existing colour |
| |
| |
a.) What's involved? |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
Either you get a so-called in-office power bleaching or we may give you the lightening product to apply yourself at night. It comes in a tray, which fits closely round your teeth and has to be worn over one to two weeks, for 30 minutes to one hour at a time. In both cases the active ingredient is normally hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide in different concentrations. |

You might experience the following side effects after having teeth whitening treatment:
-
Some people find their teeth become sensitive to cold during or after the treatment.
-
Others report discomfort in the gums, a sore throat or white patches on the gum line. These symptoms are usually temporary and disappear within a few days of the treatment finishing.
-
What about home kits? They are not recommended as they contain only a small concentration of hydrogen peroxide, which reduces their effectiveness.
-
Whitening is also a complicated treatment procedure and should only be carried out by a dentist after a thorough examination and assessment of your teeth.

b.) Is this Procedure for Everyone?
| |
| |
Virtually everyone wanting to brighten his or her teeth can benefit from our teeth whitening process, including people with severe food and tobacco or tetracycline stains. However, extremely dark teeth that may need changes of 20+ would require more than one treatment. |
| |
| |
Pregnant women or patients with periodontal disease are discouraged from undergoing this procedure. |
| |
| |
c.) How white could my teeth get? |
| |
| |
Tests prove that, after whitening with Beyond, teeth score from 5 to 14 points higher on the Vita scale. The results depend on how discolored the teeth were originally, but the end result will be white, shiny teeth. |
| |
| |
d.) How long will the whitening last? |
| |
| |
This varies from person to person and depends on your diet, but the effects should usually last for at least two years. |
| |
| |
e.) Is it safe? |
| |
| |
Yes, scientific articles have shown that using hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth is effective and safe. The dental community has used it in teeth whitening for years. It does not change or damage the structure of teeth; it merely makes them appear whiter and brighter. |

Unlike the “do-it-yourself” take home bleaching trays, our dentist oversees every aspect of your teeth whitening procedure. Before you can even move forward with your procedure, our dentist does a thorough examination to ensure both teeth and tissue is acceptable. Your teeth witening procedure will not soften enamel or damage existing fillings.
| |
| |
Independent safety studies found that the teeth whitening procedure resulted in no structural change in teeth. |
| |
| |
f.) How long does treatment take? |
| |
| |
In only 30 to 40 minutes, discoloration that has built up over the years will magically disappear. It takes no longer than the time it would for you to have a haircut or a manicure, or have a cup of coffee - it's that simple!
| |
| |
g.) What's the difference between Beyond and other methods of whitening? |
| |
| |
This technique whitens your teeth right away and has no side effects. The result is 30% better than home whitening products and comparable technologies. |
| |
| |
h.) Will it whiten my existing crowns or veneers? |
| |
| |
The whitening treatment in general cannot change the color of porcelain crowns or veneers. We recommend that you discuss your situation with your dentist to determine what you can expect. |
| |
| |
i.) Will it hurt? |
| |
| |
The teeth whitening process is normally painless. A very small percentage of people may experience a minor, dull “ache” following the procedure. Taking an Advil (ibuprofen) almost always resolves the feeling. It is best to avoid very hot or very cold drinks for the first 24 hours if there is any tooth sensitivity. |
